Not to be outdone by Scott, I took a Bronze medal in the middle distance the next day. I had been very disappointed by my performance and 12th place in the sprint, and I had the opportunity to make amends already the next day. It was very nearly another bad performace, with a mistake at the second check point of almost 90 seconds. In some ways that freed me from the pressure and expectation, and from that point to the finish I was the fastest athlete, but the damage from that early mistake was too much to take the gold. I managed to pull back up to 3rd place, just under 1 minute behind the leader (and former senior World Champion) Matthias Merz. My first medal in an individual race at a senior international championships, and now I am hungry for more! Ideal preparation for the World Championships proper in 2 weeks.
